Migraines
What is good for a stress/ tension migraine?
I have been seeing a top migraine specialist at UCSD. He is from the Mayo Clinic. He was great and tried everything, more than anyone else. I use Maxalt, best so far. If I get tired, I get a migraine. Tough to balance. You can only use maxalt 9x a month and I found out what happens if you take more. You get rebound headaches! July was horrible. Headache almost daily. Definitely not doing that again. My specialist tries nerve block, botox, zomig nasal spray and a new powder you blow into your nose. I tried them all. For me, and my fibro, i need to be diligent and schedule down time, no matter what. If I have 75%? bedrest, I can manage them. Who wants to live in bed? So..I get out, plan to have migraines and manage what i do and see if it is worth it?
Lavender oil on the temples (if you're looking something natural) or voltaren is also amazing to rub on the back of your neck, temples, and anywhere else on your body. Depending on what you respond best to, using a cold or heat pack over your forehead. Another tip is to put your hands and feet in really cold water at the same time, not sure why it works, but it does. The last tip I have is listening to binural beats, particularly the theta tones. You can look up the different tones on YouTube, and the ohm chants that budist monks hum are also in a ton that is good. I hope this helps, I know how much headaches can suck! Good luck!
I take a preventative called Verapamil for my migraines. I also have a medication called Fioricet that I use if my head, neck and upper back are really tense or painful. I can only use the Fioricet 3 days because of its rebound effects. My daughter takes Maxalt for her migraines if she gets a bad one. I also use heat. Cold compresses tend to get my pain going...so I use when I have to do it.
I also use aroma therapy oils . I work for massage envy and they have a few really good ones . I use mint and rosemary for tension and their aches and pain roll on when I have a migraine ... It doesn't fully take it away but it will lessen the symptoms until I have time to actually treat it
@A MyFibroTeam Member I posted this somewhere else here, but my Dr. gave me a preventative for migraines. 50 mg of Elavil, 400 of Magnesium, twice a day, and 4 B2 100 mg's. I had to go down to 2 B2 because I couldn't sleep. Too MUCH energy! I still get them, but not quite as bad, depending on my mental state.
