I have been reading some of the posts. I am curious.......Is the fibro something that contributes to oddly insane sleeping habits? Dr.'s said it was chronic fatigue. Call it whatever. Some days if i can get out of bed i am lucky. then by night i am not tired or still sleeping and wake up in the wee hours of the AM. Then back to bed by sunup or shortly after. My body is tired on other days but the ol' brain won't shut down or shut up! So i lay with my eyes closed. then other days i can go and… read more

Yes fibro effects sleep and can cause weird sleeping patterns. Try my fibro manual by Dr Liptan it's a great book that describes what happens with fibro and what you can do to help your symptoms it has been super helpful in me being able to understand this and work on ways to help things along

I been going through this same issue lately, and I take amitriptylin, and prazosin for my nightmares pain help with my PTSD, but know mt therapist noticed I have not been myself and my sleeping pattern has been off. She think I might be manic bipolar disorder witch causes me to be hyper and cause me not to sleep for weeks and need a mood balancer.

I found a low dose of elavil effective for a number of years. My doctor explained it just normalized the serotonin in my brain. Fibromyalgia patients have all sorts of abnormalities when it comes to sleep. Deep REM stages, cortisol release, that's just to start. I have read about several studies done over the years. A researcher by the name of Moldofsky did a lot of work on it. If you Google fibromyalgia, sleep and his name you can read the studies. Elavil, alone does not work anymore. I can't deal anymore with the battle and rely on a few different medications as well as Benadryl. I make sure the temperature in my room is ideal before going to sleep (a.c.s or space heaters as needed), wash my arms and put scented lotion on them. I like Bath &Bodywork's Stress relief lotion. It is eucalyptus spearmint. Dr.Oz recommends eucalyptus oil for sleep. I make sure I have been active early in the day and do not drink coffee after 1 pm.

If your mind is racing and can't shut down you might want to ask your doctor for psychotropics. There are some awesome medications out there the shut the racing thoughts down.

Some people with fibro have small sleep issues, other major sleep issues - discuss with your doctor if you're unsure what it's related to and what could be causing it.
