A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi! I had route canal done on my front tooth 5 weeks ago with no pain but later found out it needed redoing, again, no pain... however, ive developed what i think is an infection around the tooth. Ive been back to the dentist and she says there is no infection and that its my fibro’ - shes given me strong antibiotics “just in case”. Ive been up in agony for 3 nights now and ive had enough... im on my second day of antibiotics and am already taking Orimorph, trammadol, naproxen, paracetamol and… read more

Yikes! So sorry you’re dealing with this. Im not sure about the infection part, but dental work has definitely been more painful for me since I’ve had fibro. Because the nerves are extra sensitive, our pain goes deeper and lasts longer than a normal patient. I recently had a root canal done as well and it affected the rest of my body and I was in bed for the rest of the week not able to walk. For my next root canal thats located near a wisdom tooth, i have to go to a special dentist because my regular dentist is too nervous to operate that closely to my larger nerves...maybe an endodondist is an option for you? Im also not on any RX for fibro (im too young to take any of the RX options) all i can take is ibuprofen, which isnt good to take long term. My drs have given me a bunch of crappy answers and so far non have helped. I hope you fine relief very soon!!

Thank you everyone! I have had a week of strong antibiotics - which knocked me off my feet - and my tooth is better. Ive spoken to numerous dentists and all have agreed that killing the nerve in my tooth sent pain signals to my tooth fibers. Thank God i have very strong pain killers!!! Im getting there, but please be warned, it could happen to you too xXx

I’ve had a number of root canals done as well as dental procedures and surgeries. I’ve never experienced what you are going through and already had fibro when started having so much dental work done. Does your tooth have a lot of pressure under it? If so, that is an infection from my experience. Hope you find relief soon!

I’m glad you found a doctor that helped but so sorry that you went through so much pain and uncalled for procedures. Not to mention money unnecessarily spent. I’ve never heard of trigeminal neuralgia. Hope you are feeling less pain. Hugs
