What Have Any Of The Women Experienced Using Full Hormone Replacement Therapy And Those That Opted For None?
My (children interns) want me to go on full hormone replacement therapy in doses that would trigger me back into life before I started going through menopause! I don't want them! But they are pushing it at me!
I had a partial hysterectomy shortly after my third child was born in 1992. This last year, I started having hot flashes and sweating. My doctor advised me try an herbal place as well. I refuse to take hormones due to severe reactions to any type of pills. My sister-in-law recommended Flaxseed oil in pill form. It helped me a great deal!
I'm on HRT. My progesterone is zilch. I stopped having a period for four months. Then I had a menses that nearly put me the hospital because I lost so much blood. I even blacked out in class for a few seconds while I was getting my insurance license. That cycle was 16 days and day ten almost put me in the hospital. Went to the doctor for the first time in 9 yrs and they found out I have PCOS, which then led to discovering the Thyroiditis diagnosis and eventually getting a fibromyalgia diagnosis too. I'm on 400 milligrams of progesterone and it does have side effects. Hormones are necessary for our bodies to function properly. Consult a doctor and if you aren't sure, get a second opinion.
My symptoms started right after I had my daughter when I was 36. I am now through menopause but I did not take anything at all for the symptoms, I kind of just let them run their course.
I had horrible night sweats at first, then the hot flashes started, and then I got the cramping problems before my period left for good. All of it felt horrible at the time but I am glad that I decided to do it without any help from the HRT.
Everyone I know who decided to go that route wound up having the worst mood swings. I mean the "fine one moment, and in the pits of despair the next, and then on cloud nine right after that" mood swings. I know that not everyone gets those kinds of swings but all the people I know (4 different women) that went that route had a really bad time. And one woman in particular, needed to go on antidepressants as she wound up having suicidal thoughts. I am not saying that HRT was the cause, I just thought it interesting that the women that seemed to have the hardest time with menopause were the ones that decided to take HRT.
I was lucky I mostly missed out on the mood swings and I believe genetics played a part in that as my Mum never had any of the mood swings at all. Overall my experience was relatively easy compared to a lot of people but having been a smoker, I decided the risks of heart disease and breast cancer were too high for me to consider HRT.
I will be honest and say that every now and then, even though I am now through menopause, I still get a hot flash or two.
Only you will know what is right for your body, listen to what it is telling you.
I had a hysterectomy when I was 28 I had cancer in my uterus I haven’t taken any kind of hormones I am 50 now. All I can say is you know your own body I can’t tell you if it’s good or not. I wish you all the best. Keep ya in my prayers
I went to my doctor about the hot flashes and sweating and she wouldn't even consider HRT. I have been usding supplemernts to get through the wonderful period of womenhood. I use Estroven. It helps me greatly. It has black cohosh in it.
