Has Anyone Been Through Lyme Disease Testing Prior To Being Diagnosed With Fibro?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have high suspicions that i may have been misdiagnosed. I don't have good days, ever. In fact my limitations have gotten worse in the past few months. very bad. My mom asked me if i had ever been tested for Lyme disease, which i hadn't. But they share the same symptoms. I am curious if anyone on here has been through Lyme testing before? I never ruled it out yet, so i am going forwards with this. As i have no remission periods. no days with flares. I am just in pain 24/7, my whole body aches… read more

@A MyFibroTeam Member, my rheumatologist was about 80 years old. I am looking into a different specialist now as he was really not helpful with much :( i agree with you, i had a bunch of testing done, but not the tests i wanted to get and have answers for. I have a contracture in my right hand, and they told me to let it get worse before coming back in 2 years to get injections in my muscles. I am 30 and i need my hands longer than that. :( lot of self advocating has to be done still. it is exhausting. I get tested for lyme disease on friday. I am hoping i can start ruling things out on my own.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Yes, I was tested for Lyme's disease in the very beginning of my symptoms and it was negative. My doctor tested me for rheumatoid arthritis and other blood test checking for several things. It was my understanding that they test for many things and when they can't find anything then they diagnose fibromyalgia. I went to a rheumatologist that specialized in fibromyalgia. She also took some X-rays, did a very thorough exam. My GP runs the blood test every year when I go for an annual check. She told me sometimes rheumatoid arthritis doesn't show up for 10 years. But they've never found anything with me. I have sore stiff muscles all the time and it continues to get worse. The more I move the worse they get. I used to be very active and now my life is very limited. You should get the blood tests. At the very least it will give you peace of mind. 😊

I have not been tested for Lyme disease but I hurt every day for the past 9 years. Most days are about a 2 on the scale of 1 to 10. I also have osteoarthritis. Some of us have continuous discomfort. Wouldn’t hurt to get tested for your own peace of mind.

yes, the first doctor that diagnosed me did a lot of tests before telling me that I have fibromyalgia. I believe doctors should always check other things (arthritis, lupus, lime disease, and other diseases) before telling you that you have fibromyalgia. my doctor at that time told me that fibromyalgia was the very bottom of the list.
