Has Anyone Tried Acupuncture For Their Fibromyalgia?
The doctor told me to try acupuncture for my fibromyalgia and Sjogrens.
I tried this, it helped me a lot. The problem is to get an appointment when you are having the pain. Usually I get a monthly plan from my therapist and I had to go to the appointment even though I had no pain. But I think for a momentanly pain relief it's worth trying.
Acupuncture did amazingly good things for me. I encourage everybody to try it. I hate needles… To the exploit point that I would explain if they had the pediatric needles that would be my preference when I was in the hospital. But I found that it worked to get me over some of the very very worst of when I went through. I’m going to go back again. But as has been pointed out, it cost money out-of-pocket, and for me, it’s so hard to make an appointment, remind myself, I have the appointment, drive to the appointment,. But if I’m at the point, where nothing else is working, acupuncture is a very good solution.
And just FYI, I go to a acupuncture co-op in my town. They work with you on the amount, and they are a very gentle healing place.
I've tried acupuncture but it can be unsettling if a nerve is hit and it can take a while to actually feel some relief. Session after session. I got faster improvement with Prolotherapy. Of course it cost out of pocket it and you have to go to somebody who knows what they're doing. Not just someone who wants to make money off of you. I found there are a few people like that. It's not always easy to find someone you trust . And it's not a one shot deal as you have to go every so often and not be afraid of needles. I figure if I have 'pain already, what's some more temporary pain if it's going to help me. It helps with tendons and ligaments and soft tissue injuries. @A MyFibroTeam Member
So sorry to read that so many of you have tried Acupuncture and found it didn't work for you. Maybe you didn't chose a fully qualified Acupuncturist. Physiotherapists often use acupuncture but that doesn't mean they are properly qualified to use it at all. They just use it without fully understanding what they are doing.
I am a qualified Acupuncturist and practiced for many years. I use Acupuncture on myself as well as using the TENS machines, and can fully vouch for the fact that Acupuncture does work - well, it works for me, and keeps my pain under control on most days.
Unfortunately it does need to be done quite often - like daily for a while, then weekly, then perhaps fortnightly. A lot of the points I can't reach on myself so have to try to manipulate my Acup-pen to those points or use a TENS machine - which is basically Acupuncture anyway.
If you are going to go to have Acupuncture, make sure the therapist is fully and properly qualified.
I had accupuncture in the beginning days of my treatments. The physio later asked me what I was doing that my back muscles were in such spasms.... He actually bent or broke a needle at some point - if I remember correctly. Best of all was, that I went to see him every second day, due to OT requirements from work.
So as far as I'm concerned it didn't do diddle squat for me.😄
