Vacations And Fibromyalgia!

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

My wife and I haven’t been on vacation for the last 15 years. How do people with fibromyalgia pain go on vacation? She’s wanting to take a group tour bus trip and I see myself being alone with strangers while she has one good day three bad days and never comes out of a motel room.

I can't imagine going on a bus trip with fibro for my tour guide. My husband & I took road trips. I'd bring along pillows & things that made it more comfortable for me to ride. I'd bring a heat pad & some ice packs. The hotels we stayed in gladly put my ice packs in the kitchen freezer & I could get them when I need one. The small fridge in the room doesn't get them cold enough. Also, plan your trips to places that are 1to3 days driving distance. The good thing about driving is that if you feel the need to stop early you have that option. We'd check in around 4to5 p.m. & have a rest & get a nice dinner. We never made reservations ahead unless we knew for sure we could drive that far. We knew what hotels were our favorite so we would go to one of them. If you want to call ahead for the next stop, call the hotel direct--NOT the 800 #. ( You'll get charged more.) Or you can have the desk clerk where you're staying call ahead & make a reservation for you. Those are just some tips I have. Also ,if your wife is not feeling good, you won't be really far from home & you'll be in your own car to get there. If you take the road trips, you don't have to follow a schedule that you may not be able to keep up with & you can take breaks whenever you feel like it. Good luck!

Hopefully you can find a compromise. My husband is very understanding and we try to plan vacation together and make sure we both have input and I usually have about 4 good hours before I'm done for the day. But that's my balance. I also have arthritis in my back, so that usually flares up every day.. vacation is possible but like everything it takes planning and compromise!!
