I recently got a swallow test done and take speech doc suggested to get a wedge pillow. I’ve been using it with my regular pillow and without. How do I wake up without insane neck pain? Also, been having a lot of dark thoughts since my pain in so bad. I’m seeing a phsychiatrist and she put me on Genee form of Prozac. I need talk therapy too. Last appointment. Didn’t do that!!!! God bless u all

I understand your question is about acid reflux but is it also about not having the proper pillow for your neck? I have acid reflux at times and I do have a bed that I can move up and down to whatever position I want so that helps a lot . I have tried wedges in the past in but I just like a bed I can move to whatever position but as far as the neck issues because I also need a fusion, I have gone crazy looking for the proper pillow for years and I finally found what works for me. I simply take as many towels as I think necessary and just roll them and then I put it behind my head and that's the best pillow I have ever had for my neck. I just make my own pillow out of rolled up cotton towels. I found about this one night when I was in a hotel and I had forgotten to bring my buckwheat pillow which is also a good pillow but I prefer to make my own with towels now.

Hi Irishwife, I have silent acid reflux, I have one large wedge pillow and I put a pillow on top of the wedge to create a comfortable mound of pillows for my neck so that my upper body is elevated but comfortable. I’ve researched the best sleeping position for acid reflux and it’s sleeping on the left side. This helps keep the acid from moving through the esophagus while sleeping. I am used to sleeping on my right side but this position opens the esophagus to allow acid to flow from the stomach up through past the esophagus and can cause damage to the esophagus and anything above the esophagus. Laying on your back is also a position that is supposed to allow for acid to move up past the esophagus. This web link has a good illustration of why sleeping on the left side is better. https://badgut.org/information-centre/a-z-diges...

Hope this helps with your pain. 😊❤️

No hasn’t recommended anything cuz I haven’t been diagnosed with arthritis in my neck. I think two pillows are making my neck pain worse. I was using a wedge pillow but I got knots all over. I’m going to continue using my two my pillows. God bless!

Hi Irishwife.

If neck pain caused by arthritis, try using icy/hot roll-on on it before going to bed. It will help for part of the night at least. Another thing you could try is the wellnee patch and put it on your neck before going to bed. This is available in the USA from the Wellnee company. They are for your knees but can be basically used anywhere on your body (not face). They do help to ease the pain for some time once they kick in. They don't take too long to start working when you have placed them.

Also rolling up towels to put under your neck as noted above can be helpful. There are many neck pillows (contured so that your neck rests on the wider part and your head falls into the lower part) can help. But it is a hit and miss with them and gets very expensive.

Sorry you are dealing with this. I have bad arthritis in my neck and have an adjustable bed, so I elevate my bed, with combination towels, pillows rolled at my neck etc. Did purchase a neck contour pillow but I am having trouble adjusting to it. Slow process and expensive.

Wishing you all the best and pray you get some relief.

Have you talked to your Dr. about this and has he/she recommended anything to help you? I would check with them also.
