Has Anyone Tried Venlafaxine As Maintenance For FM?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Other meds are no longer working for me and bow trying other things that might help. I took one Venlafaxine 75 mg yesterday but started having chills. Although this morning I feel that the pain and fatigue is much less. Not sure if I should keep going

Hi! I’m currently on Lyrica but it has started to not work as it did before. My pain level has been very high lately so my doctor prescribed me Effexor (venlafaxine) but I haven’t taken it yet. A friend of mine said it changed her life and she feels better than she has in a long time. She’s not a fibromyalgia suffer, but has chronic fatigue syndrome. I’ve been hesitant to try it because of the side effects but I am because I’m desperate. I will update you when I do.

Call your doctor who prescribed them if you are concerned. Don't take anymore until you speak with the doctor.

I take it (currently a total of 112.5mg, spread across two tablets in the morning and one in the evening) and feel like it does help with my fibromyalgia but agree that it can take a little while for your body to adjust to it, especially when first taking it and/or increasing your dosage (my main side effect has been nausea but gastro resistant tablets help). Also agree that if you miss/delay taking a dose that you know about it. For the most part though, it does help to take the edge off.

I took Venlafaxine for years for depression. Helped with this not Fibromyalgia. If you miss a dose you know it. I took six months to gradually come off it no problems.

Hi! I wish I could help you, but this class of medication has serious side effects for me. It is a personal preference, but I know that if like when I took a medication for 3 days it took 3 days to wear off and it was severe side effects, but they tried to tell me it would get better. I knew it was getting worse so I just stopped as I was afraid as other medications did me awful. I always say we all have a lot in common but no two of us are the same. Hugs and prayers. God bless.
