Fibro Diet?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Have heard that certain foods or diets can help with fibro pain. Has anyone found any specific things that have worked? I don't want to do anything drastic like cutting out any big food groups, was just wondering what types of diets people have found useful. I am also cautious of following a specific "diet" as I do not want to develop any sort of disordered thinking around foods, I want to keep a healthy relationship with food.

Am also thinking of cutting out drinking as I am not sure that it… read more

While I don't consider myself vegan, because I will eat meat and dairy if I go out for dinner, I do try to follow a vegan diet at home. I have found that this has helped with IBS issues. I also gave up social drinking, but mostly because it interacts with nearly all the medication I'm on. Like Trevor said, you'll have to try different things and see what works specifically for you.

You should not drink alcohol and definitely should not smoke ! I know it’s a bummer but both are the worst things for your body exspecially if you have fibro . Alcohol dehydrates and can cause more stiffness and smoking can cause more pains . Although everyone’s body is different and everyone’s fibro is different. Myself I have severe fibro so bad it almost feels like ms at times , I had to give up drinking smoking vaping and I can’t even smoke weed anymore because of cognitive impairment. Do what works best for you your body will let you know , btw hangovers , down ward spirals are the worst . Best of luck to you .

The Mediterranean Diet has helped me. I haven’t been as good about staying on it the past few years and I’ve had more pain. I allow myself to drink alcohol once in a while. In moderation is best. Might be one beer or one cocktail. If I have more than two the sugar affects me the next day. Hangovers can be from too many sugary cocktails or mixing different types of alcohol. Having two to three different types of spirits in one night out can make a headache worse the next day. I try to stick with one, like vodka, through the evening if I enjoy more than one, and if it’s sugary cocktails I’ll be soar in my muscles the next day but the headache is more likely minimal. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m tired of not enjoying an evening out with friends or not enjoying a long hike over the weekend because of the Fibro crash I will experience later on. So some weeks I will just know that there will be a painful consequence to deal with soon and enjoy my time out with friends. Before you go out have a healthy snack of vegetables or a salad or include with dinner while your out, too many carbs with social activities can bring on pain too.

Head for the Mediterranean (Diet)
Some experts say that an anti-inflammatory diet can make a big difference to anyone with a chronic pain disorder. If you're not eating that way now, the traditional Mediterranean diet is a pretty safe bet. it might ease your fibromyalgia symptoms.29 Nov 2022
