Anyone With Long Hair Knows How To Handle The Pain Of Taking Care Of The Hair?(Untangle It, Shower, Etc)

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Due to the asxPo and fibro I get so tired but really tired and with a lot of pain everytime I try to untangle my hair when brushing or even washing my hair
Sometimes I take more than 2 hrs to even finish the untangling process and it's frustrating since I end up with more pain in my chest and rib area than if I leave it as it is.

I'm even considering of just cutting my hair really low so I don't need to deal with this but that may be an extreme option, which is why I am asking for all of your… read more

My hair knots no matter what. It's thin but passed my shoulder blades. Cap it for showers. The best shampoo so far, WEN. It was balding but WEN thickened it up dramatically. Helpes my psoriasis too.
No need for a conditioner or anything else. All depends on how you rince the WEN out. You'll learn as ya go with WEN. It doesn't suds up. Been using WEN for decades. I only wash my hair in the sink weekly, more if need be. I brush my hair to the sides & forward. Wash/rince keeping the hair forward & straight as possible. Wrap it in a towel for at leat 1/2 hour or so. No rubbing dry. When dry enough, brush/comb forward & then slowly into place. For special occasions I pull my hair up & clamp it with a curly claw clamp wiglet or bun. Or pull my own ponytail through the back of a hat/cap. This is the only way I can wash & keep my hair long & wear either pulled up or down. Brush at least 2-3 times a day to keep the knots away. The WEN never dries out the hair shafts.
Hope you figure out what's best for you. It's frustrating for anyone especially with fibroyalgia & chronic fatigue, even arthritis. I also use Blissy pillowcases. Really helps keep the knots down. Helps my hair & face. No cotton or bamboo cases for me anymore. It's either long hair or a buzz cut. Nothing works for me in-between.

Yes to don't wash your hair as often. I wash once a week, when you have the conditioner in your hair in the shower is a great time to do steps 3-6 while sitting down in the shower. Dry shampoo as needed if your hair gets greesy. Do the following steps with rest in between 1. Make sure you are sitting down when brushing it. 2. Use detangler: my favorite is show and sheen (yes, you get it from the farm store, it does not make dandruff worse it is animal safe therefore human safe cause we love our pets and humans are mammals too(sarcasm)). Spray it on the hair and wait 10 min. 3. Try to do the bottom parts first by having your hair lay over one shoulder so you are brushing in front instead the top of your head. 4. Then switch it over the other shoulder and brush again 5. Now do the top of your hair (this is always the worst because your arms are above your head) 6. Repeat steps 3 and 4. 7. Do a low pony tail and braid the end with your head turned to the side so you can braid it in front of you and use a second hairtie to secure it. 8. Redo the braid at least every day and you will find you don't have near as many tangles to contend with. Sorry for the book and overexplanation. I am used to explaining things to my 9 yr old with hair to almost her butt. I know you are a very intelligent capable human being.

I have medium-short hair and I just wash it once a week. That’s it. Dry shampoo in between times is helpful.

Just cut it... I had my hair to my butt. My husband had to help me wash it . But then I was always dealing with it coming out, so that got annoying..I donated mine, so win win!!
Best thing I ever did
