Lynnecarol, I've never had frostbite. Not sure why this happens, it just happens randomly. Usually looks a lot redder than this.

I see a paler colour at the top. Is it possible you had frostbite at some time? I had frostbite on my fingers, toes, and ears in the 1980s, All get red and very painful when they get cold.

Doesn't look bad in this photo. Compared to the other ear, there was a difference.
