Does Anyone Have Any Experience With Fibro Running In Families?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia a decade ago, my Mum’s Dr has just mentioned possible Fibro and for a while I’ve suspected my daughter to have the same... She’s only 10 however.

It was my understanding that Fibro doesn’t run in families?

My Dad has MS but my own results have been inconclusive so they diagnosed Fibro. Is it just a coincidence that my Mum and Daughter are following suit?

Is there a reason why Fibro is everywhere now? I’d never even heard of it before my own diagnosis!

If there's anything I learned about fibro it's that it can be capable of anything, directly and indirectly. No matter if it's a symptom, trigger or a cause. I still think it's crazy it's not classified as an autoimmune thing, but give it another 10 years. Imagine all the things they will discover about it then. Especially now that more doctors accept it as a real diagnosis.

Yes. There are several reasons fibromyalgia can run in families- family history, genetic mutations, and environmental factors.

I have multiple family members with fibromyalgia and several of us share autoimmune diseases as well.

It does not mean she will develop or has fibromyalgia.

That being said, I was also a child, younger than her. Lots of us on here were young children.

Maybe you should talk to yours and her doctor about your concerns.
