I Am Taking A Survey: How Many People Think They Had Fibromyalgia As A Child/teenager And Were Not Diagnosed Until Later In Life?
I believe I've had fibromyalgia since I was six years old and wasn't diagnosed until 32 years old despite trips to rheumatologists and specialists as a teenager.
That is an interesting question. I have wondered if I had it since my early 20s. That is really the first time I remember having “ unexplained “ pain. As a child and teen, I was very active in gymnastics, soccer and golf so I don’t really remember pain other than sports injuries.
I had pain aged about seven. Also many other associated symptoms like IBS. Apparently I disliked school. Take care.
Myrna2,
While rare that children are diagnosed with fibromyalgia, it has been diagnosed in children and teenagers. It is my belief that as children are exposed to more and more trauma, especially prolonged trauma, we are going to see this disease being diagnosed in younger children. Time will tell.
Since five or six ,if I had to guess. Sitting at my desk all day was exhausting and uncomfortable. Insomnia since age seven, but blamed it on my asthma. As a teen they blamed it on growing pains. Had Charley horses in calves too. Early 20’s, doctor said I was so tired probably because of viral infections. Migraines. Swollen glands. IBS-C, but didn’t know that’s what it was called. Ended up in emergency room in my 30’s with excruciating pain in my stomach. They took loads of tests, couldn’t find anything. Then pain went away. Then I had several years of bladder infections. Neck pain. Arm hurt and difficult to write. Sleep got worse and worse. Viral Meningitis. Etc etc etc. Wasnt diagnosis until age 47!
Yep that is what doctor told my Mom it is just growing pains. YUCK hugs Evelyn
