Does Anyone Have Pain In Their Ribs?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been having pain in my lower ribs on the left side that goes around to the lower rib cage in my the back. It hurts mainly when I move or lay on my right side...if I lay on my left side or back, it doesn't hurt. I have had the pain for 2 weeks, but it has started to taper off. I was just wondering if this has something to do with my fibro...

Wow, this post blows my mind....I had that a couple weeks ago and almost went to the emergency room . I couldn't sleep the pain was so bad. Mine started in my lower back and went up under my ribs on my left side. I thought it was pleurisy at first because it hurt to take in deep breaths. I couldn't lay on either side and had to try and sleep at an angle on my back, it was horrible and took 3 days to even start going away . each day gradually started to be less painful. Didn't call my Dr. because wouldn't of done any good really, I mean what could he of done and I don't think he understands fibro anyway. If Dr.s really understood fibro I think they would give us something to boost our energy ,witch would help us keep active, feel more productive and help us have a better quality of life!

I want to thank all of you so much for your answers. I am new to fibro (hence my name) and this site and it's comforting to know that I am not alone and there is a place I can now go to for advice.... and to vent other than to my poor husband :)

Sounds like Costochondritis- an inflammation of the cartilage connecting ribs to spine.
I have it constantly just varying pain levels
Not really a lot you can take to alleviate pain by way of meds but some things that will ease it

If you can take ibuprofen try using a gel like volterol and rub on ribcage/back areas where sore
If not it's a matter of alternating between heat pads/blanket and ice packs ( I find a bag of frozen peas is best because you can mould to shape easier)

Also between deep heat and Biofreeze gels instead of ibuprofen one

Lying propped up with pillows is more comfortable than lying flat or sitting up Straight.

Drinking plenty of fluids beneficial when using heat pads to avoid dehydration

Epsoms salts baths with lavender essential oil and ground ginger root may help as well

Gentle hugs and God bless xx

I have same symptoms for over six years. All over my body, all the time. So yes, it can be due to fibro.

I also have rib issues on my right side. Pain and discomfort in my lower rib area. Hurts to press on the ribs. At times I've also had the chest pain and crept up to my shoulder. May be Costochondritis. Best of luck and take care!
