Advice For Herniated Disc Surgery With Fibro Too

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Philadelphia, PA

Was diagnosed with Fibro in 2008, also been out of work since then, Prior to I was in 2 bus accidents which caused 2 herniated discs in back and one in my neck. So many different medications and none work. It seems its gotten worse. I want surgery for the discs but drs. say Fibro may intensify the pain.
Anyone dealing with both ailments.... Please help...Dont know what to do...

I had to have my cervical disc replaced due to degenerative disease and it helped with pain in my neck but not with pain in my shoulders and arms. It is not a very nice operation. I couldn't talk or swallow because they do the op from the front of your neck, which means your muscles and voice box is moved. I now have a scar across my neck and whenever I move my neck I have a crunching sound. Think very carefully before you have surgery. Not out to scare you but ask questions first. Good Luck

I have herniated disks in my lumbar and cervical spine. I have received spinal injections (lidocaine and steroids) twice. My pain doctor does them. Maybe that could help you.

I have DGD and FM (and some osteoarthritis). I have had three surgeries for my discs. They did help but because of the degeneration, the herniations came back. Last May I had another 2 lumbar discs herniate and the sciatica has been grueling. I had been working with an ortho doc from August to November. I decided against surgery this time and I've been working with a chiropractor since November. My pain almost gone completely and I'm strengthening my core.

Since the May injury, I tried several pain killers (which didn't work) and finally was prescribed taking 2 aleve twice a day. I haven't taken any for almost two months now. I recommend you seek out all your options. I find surgery and chiro and diet and gentle exercise will all help, but they aren't instantaneous.

I hope you feel better soon!

I had Fibro when I had neck Disc 5&6, done I recovered, was on pain meds, currently off, made no difference to my body having fibro. Now several years before I had knee surgery and it went off the charts. Took 2 years to feel better. @A MyFibroTeam Member. I will ask God to intervene for you. He can do all things according to those who love the Lord !
