Fibro And Being Cold

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Buckhannon, WV

I have been having trouble getting and staying warm for several months now. My Fibro doctor says it's from the Fibro since my Iron levels are good. I'm not sure if it's true. Does anyone stay cold no matter what? I don't know how to get and stay warm, do you? Thank you all for your help. Much love and many hugs.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, You are amazing! I never would have thought to ask about this connected with Fibro. "Whew!" Glad in knowing I'm not alone, though. I use whatever seems to work. I also have a constantly hurting foot. So years ago after surgery, I lined up *pillows (one on top of another) on each side of *my double bed---about 1/2 the way up the sides. Lots of pillows! Yeah. I take this serious. I use a *Queen size sheet to cover over pillows and tuck into sides. **This traps any warm air inside the opened spot I made! I then have a tiny arm-type pillow that is placed under covers about 6 to 8" from edge of mattress to set my feet (usually right one) against. I can always push pillow away if too close. @A MyFibroTeam Member, This is what helps me from having freezing feet *in bed! I also wear a pair of lightly snug to loose "footsies" (don't know their name) over feet. But in bed, sometimes calves of legs and my feet swell. So I have to remove them. It's usually the *right foot (that has had two surgeries) with much worse swelling. Some years back, I was told that using just one sock will warm feet. **It does! In the early Fall, we had 70+ degree temperatures. I got **a Comforter and placed over *all the other covers! Eventually, I felt warm. *Last Winter, I used this thick, heavy Comforter ONE time--when it got down to 10 degrees! BURR! Our heat has been on at least since Fall. But most of the time, it doesn't feel warm. Especially downstairs, where it is more of a draft. I WOULD freeze trying to sleep downstairs! I don't want to be "HOT!" Just comfortable. And when in car, my feet are placed as close to the floor vent with warm to hot air hitting down on them.

My understanding is that with Fibro my body had difficulty adjusting to temperature changes.. It is after all, a Central Nervous System disease

Generally when I'm feeling really cold my blood pressure is running low. I have a blood pressure device so I can keep track of my blood pressure because it sometimes will go really low. You may want to monitor your blood pressure for awhile to see if yours is low too. The heated throw blankets are pretty helpful too. My best help is to get up and move around. It gets my blood moving and my blood pressure to go up. At least for awhile I feel a lot warmer. If I then crawl under a blanket, I can usually keep that warmth longer.
