Chest Pain When Stretching Or Moving?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hey guys!!! I hope you’re all kicking Fibro’s ass! I was wondering, I’m 27. Have been checked a million times for cardiac problems as I get chest pain that comes and goes since I have been diagnosed with Fibro in August. I have chest pain that NEVER wakes me up during the night, but can sometimes come out of nowhere and last a few seconds and go away. Some days I’m completely fine. Some I’m not. I find that when my body aches I’ll get chest pains when I stretch. Like lift my arms. Reach for… read more

I wonder if it's anxiety.

Sounds like rib cage pain (costochondritis), I had it for 25 years, the longest flare lasted for about three weeks, sometimes just a few stabbing, sharp pain, sometimes longer. If it makes you feel better you could get a CT scan with contrast to see if there is any lung issue, but otherwise you just have to accept it. Try to figure it out what type of movements can bring it out, such as reaching upward or sweeping, vacuuming etc. then try to avoid those movements. Ibuprofen can work to ease the pain and helps to relieve inflammation.

I started getting breathlessness and sharp chest pains with problems swallowing and a thick discharge down the back of my throat about 6 months ago and had a lung function test which showed that I had lost some lung function. I suffer from severe anxiety and when I was getting breathless I wasn't sure if I was making it worse over thinking or if It was actually not well. When I spoke to the GP who gave me some antihistamines and I couldn't believe it but within 20 min almost all of the symptoms were easing. I still have trouble with chest pain and breathlessness but I try to stay calm, drink a glass of water and let my body calm down at its own rate.

I haven’t experienced that because of my Fibro but have def had it due to anxiety. Although, because of the way Fibro makes your brain send pain signals when there needn’t be pain, I find the pain can be very random and not related to any issue I have, just pointless pain or sensitivity.
