My New PCP Mentioned Changing My Meds From Gabapentin To Duloxetine. Any Experience With Either/both Of These Drugs? Which Works Better?

I also have Syringomyelia. It’s a rare disease. Gabapentin is prescribed for nerve pain and restriction of movement that causes. A specialist told me Gabapentin is used for Fibromyalgia as well so I’m essentially taking it for both. I’m sure there’s pain associated Fibro but I think it mostly causes brain fog and chronic fatigue. Syringomyelia is my bigger fish to fry and I hate to replace it but I hate the thought of taking both. If someone is out there that has Syringomyelia as well or… read more

Good Morning Christina!
I have been taking Duloxetine and Gabapentin for 3 years together.
I have fibromyalgia, nerve pain, TMD, Raynaud’s Phenomenon, POTS and Chronic migraines.
The Gabapentin has helped me tremendously with my Temporal lobe seizures and nerve pain in my head/jaw/neck area.
The Duloxetine has helped me with my muscle pain and stiffness as well as mood management with my depression.
I take gabapentin at 100 mg - 3 times a day. I take Duloxetine at 60 mg - 2 times a day.
I would recommend asking your doctor about using both in lower doses to start. It took me a few years to find this combination that works for me and I only hope it can give you some relief as well! Take care

So sorry you have to cope with this illness as well as fibro. It can be really debilitating. Why can’t you take both meds Christina? They can both be sedating. I have read great things about Duloxetine. For the first time in over twenty years a doctor spoke about me having fibro and recommended duloxetine. I tried it but it lowered my mood and made me feel really tired. Other people say it has changed their lives for the better. Horses for courses. Worth trying to see how you react to it. Good luck.

Thank you, I will talk to my PCP about this dosage. She said I would take both but I’m worrisome about so many medications. I guess it’s ok though.
