Support Groups That You Attend, What Do They Do At A Support Group Where You Attend And Meet Others With The Condition?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Am thinking about joining a support group where you meet with others with Fibromyalgia. Just wandering what actually happens at a support group. I once attended one for arthritis but really didn't like it ,it was very informal with no leader as such and no plan for activities etc, just sitting round discussing our illness , found it depressing and scary as others were at a more advanced stage of their illness to me. I really would like it to be an organised group ,with activities to do rather… read more

I'd love to start one, but sadly I believe someone without fibro needs to lead it. Or at least in my case, someone more functional. Clinics need to offer it perhaps, because in my case, trying to start one would be like " procrastinators unite! ...tomorrow" just because other than fulfilling obligations for my children, I'm afraid I'd let others down if I couldn't be there...but then again...maybe showing up unshowered, in my pajamas, in pain would actually help inspire others to not give up, lol, but I'm afraid I'd depress them as stated like the arthritis support group mentioned. Plus, I'd hate to have one more obligation I feel- whether to lead or to show up regularly- inadequate to fulfill hanging over my head because of this disease/condition. I'd like to go to a support group, but then again, that's why I've come online here! Its here when I cancan be, need it, while wearing what I can etc., I can ( hopefully, usually,) sound positive and uplifting and caring and helpful- I hope....even if I'm laying on pillows, grimacing, wishing anything could ease my pain, in tears of exhaustion, wishing I didn't have to shower for my drs appt tomorrow.... Like tonight. Where I can at least read peoples ploght and give hugs, or like their accomplishments. I'd love to hear more about the benefits others have had from suchsuch in person support groups though!
