Hello,

My Daughter and I both have Fibro. My Daughter also has Idiopathic Hypersomnia and suffered from seizures from age 4-15. While I have found a Doctor that I love and trust, she has not. She tried my doctor but did not feel the same about him. (He was trying to treat her just like me as we are Mother and Daughter and she did not appreciate it). The Doctor's she has now do not take her pain seriously and never address it.. I regret to report that she has started drinking to relieve… read more

I agree with all of the previous replies. It's important to find out from your insurer what they require as far as referrals. My fibro Dr is a rheumatologist in Battle Creek (where I live) & I had to be referred by my family Dr. Personally, I have lots of trust in my rheumatologist. But, yes, sounds like you need to get a new primary doc. We know fibro is REAL! You need your doc to believe it too.

Have you tried a Pain Clinic or pain doctor? She has got to get away from the doctor she has now. Would your doctor refer her. She has to be persistent. Keep on them. I know some doctors don't believe in Fibromyalgia. My arthritis doctor diagnosed me. Good luck. Hope this help. Soft hugs.

Hi Heather,

It's best to check what your medical aid or health plan requires in order to ensure that they will pay if you have insurance. From there you will know if you need a referral. If you don't try do a little background research before you see a specialist if nobody can give you a reference to someone specific. We know the road is hard and I wish you and your daughter all the best in finding the right person to treat her. Strength and gentle hugs. Xoxoxoxo

I agree with Cyna, she answered perfectly. I would try to find another PC though. See if she can find one she likes.

@A MyFibroTeam Member...did you try http://www.lifescript.com/doctor-directory/cond...?

As far as a referral...that is really something you would #1 want to check with her insurance carrier - sometimes you need to be referred to a "specialist" in order for the insurance to pay and #2 with the individual Rheumatologist/doctor - I know some Rheummies won't accept anyone without a referral.

Hope that helps...Light and Hugs,
Cyna
